Upgrading to OmniMark 7

Course Objectives

On completing this course, participants will be able to use all the new exciting features in the latest OmniMark version. Participants will also be able to build more modern style modularised programs allowing for an improved shared development and maintenance for larger applications.

Course Length

Two days.

Course Description

This course is a migration course for developers who have used OmniMark before.

It gives an in depth insight in the OmniMark streaming philosophy, explains all the new features and possibilities and teaches how to optimise your programming style for reuse and maintenance. This course shows how to use OmniMark v7 at its best.

Agenda

Day 1

  • Modularise your programs using Modules
  • Use Records and create your own data types
  • Improve Pattern Matching with new Features (take, drop, non greedy pattern matching)
  • Enhance streaming with Input and Filter functions
  • Validate XML Schemas using external parsers
  • Process XML Namespaces in OmniMark

Day 2

  • Use the high level database module, OMDB
  • Use the virtual file system module, OMVFS
  • Use the web service broker, OMWSB
  • Pot-Pourri (new shelf syntax, constants, repeat for, repeat to, synonyms, log-message, assert, dynamic initialisation...)

Lab exercises

You will build several working applications during the lab exercises. These applications are designed to provide a base from which you build your own applications by reusing code and concepts.

Prerequisites

  • Previous programming experience with OmniMark
  • Working knowledge of XML or SGML
  • Familiarity with relational databases

  • Courses are conducted in English by highly qualified, professional OmniMark instructors and all documentation is in English
  • Classroom computers are available for exercises
  • You will learn through an optimum blend of classroom instruction, hands-on lab exercises, and informative question and answer sessions
  • Practical projects will demonstrate OmniMark's unique features
