OmniMark CI 4.0 installation procedure (Windows 3.x) | |||||
------ |
OmniMark for Windows 3.x is a 32-bit program for Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups.
Before installing OmniMark on your Windows 3.x machine, make sure that your FLEXlm license manager has been installed and configured properly on the appropriate computer. Overview of the license manager.
OmniMark for Windows 3.x is designed to work with Microsoft Win32s, version 1.30c or higher, and may not work with earlier versions. Consequently, you should upgrade to Win32s version 1.30c or higher (version 1.30c is supplied with the OmniMark software). Installing Win32s).
Installing OmniMark for Windows 3.x will transfer files to the OmniMark directory that you choose during installation, and will transfer required DLLs to your Windows and Windows\System directories. If your Windows or Windows system directory is on a network drive instead of on your local computer, you may need to have a network administrator do the installation.
There are several steps to installing OmniMark on a local computer running Windows:
It is important that Win32s be installed before installing OmniMark. The OmniMark Technologies software download page has a file "check32s.exe" that will test to see if you have Win32s version 1.30c on your computer.
Use the following procedure to install the OmniMark software:
Pointing at a FLEXlm License Manager
Once OmniMark is installed, your environment must be configured so that OmniMark is pointing at a specific license manager. The license manager currently does not run under Windows 3.x, and must therefore be located on another computer on the same network.
All computers that OmniMark will run on should have the environment variable language="ascii">OMNIMARK_LICENSE_FILE
set to the port address and server name of the machine on which the license manager server is running. For example, if the license manager's TCP/IP port address is 7476, and the server name is "myserver", then the following statement should be added to the "autoexec.bat" file:
set OMNIMARK_LICENSE_FILE=7476@myserver
After you have made the changes to the "autoexec.bat" file, reboot your computer.
Verifying the OmniMark installation
The OmniMark installation is checked in two stages. First, you check that OmniMark will run. Then you check that OmniMark can obtain a license from the license manager. Before you begin, ensure that the OMNIMARK_LICENSE_FILE
is correctly set.
To verify that OmniMark is properly installed, issue the following command from a DOS prompt in Windows:
omnimark -version
OmniMark will reply by outputting a version banner if the installation is working. OmniMark is able to execute the "-version" command without obtaining a license from the license manager, so any failure to reply indicates a problem with OmniMark or with Win32s, and not with the license manager.
After installing the license manager software, you can test that OmniMark can successfully communicate with the license manager by running the "test.xom" script. This script appears in the top level of the OmniMark installation directory and can be run with the following command line:
omnimark -s test.xom
If you receive "success" as an ouput, OmniMark is communicating successfully with the license manager.
