atan

function

Library: Trigonometry (OMTRIG)
Import : omtrig.xmd

Returns: the arc tangent of a floating point number

Declaration
export external float function
     atan value float x

Purpose

Use atan to calculate, in radians, the arc tangent of a floating point number. (The arc tangent is the inverse of the tangent.) This trigonometric function works the same way as its equivalent in the C math library.

Example:

  import "omtrig.xmd" unprefixed
  import "omfloat.xmd" unprefixed
  process
     local float x initial {90}
     local float atan-value
     set atan-value to atan x
     output "Arc tangent of x where x = "
         || "d" % x
         || " is "
         || "d" % atan-value
         || "%n"
  ; Output: "Arc tangent of x where x = 90 is 1.559685672897289"
