|
------
|
What you need before installing
Before installing the license manager, you will need the following:
- a user name with administrator privileges on the Windows NT computer on which you are installing FLEXlm
- an Ethernet adapter on your computer
- your Windows installation CD-ROM
- the hostname and hostid of your computer (see instructions below for getting them)
- authorization codes from OmniMark Technologies
- a copy of "omflex40.exe" obtained from either your OmniMark CD-ROM or the OmniMark Technologies website
Downloading FLEXlm from the Web
If you are downloading FLEXlm from the OmniMark Technologies software download page
, create a temporary working directory and download the file "omflex40.exe" to it. Do not run "omflex40.exe" yet, as it will cause you to skip several important steps in the installation procedure.
Determining the hostname and hostid of your computer
To determine the hostname and hostid of the computer you are installing FLEXlm on, do the following:
- Obtain the computer's hostname by right-clicking on Network Neighborhood and selecting "Properties". The computer name is your hostname.
- Obtain the hostid by runnning "ipconfig/all" from a DOS prompt. The "Physical Address" of your Ethernet Adapter displayed in your output is your hostid.
Obtaining authorization codes
Obtain authorization codes from your OmniMark Technologies sales representative. To get your authorization codes, you will need the hostid and hostname of the computer you will be installing FLEXlm on.
Configuring Windows NT
Windows NT must be configured with certain protocols to run the license manager correctly. Follow these steps to configure NT:
- Make sure you have administrator privileges on the computer you are installing FLEXlm on.
- From the Start menu, select Settings - Control Panel.
- Open the Network icon using a double-click, and select the Protocols tab.
- Ensure that the TCP/IP Protocol is listed. If TCP/IP is not listed --
- Insert your Windows NT installation CD-ROM.
- Click the "Add" button.
- Select the TCP/IP Protocol, then click the "OK" button.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Again using the Control Panel - Network icon, select the Services tab.
- Ensure that the following services are listed --
- NetBIOS Interface
- RPC Configuration
- Server
- Workstation
- If one of the above services is not listed, then --
- Insert your Windows NT installation CD-ROM.
- Click the "Add" button.
- Select the service you want to install, and click the "OK" button.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Again using the Control Panel - Network icon, select the Adapters page.
- Select your Ethernet adapter from the list only if more than one is listed.
- If your adapter is not listed, then --
- Insert your Windows NT installation CD-ROM.
- Click the "Add" button.
- Select the Adapter you want to install, and click the "OK" button.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- If any components were changed, you must now reboot the computer.
Running omflex40.exe
If you are installing from the CD-ROM, double-click on the file "\Winnt\omflex40.exe".
If you are installing from a web download, make sure you have navigated to the section for Windows NT and downloaded the FLEXlm file. Then double-click on the file "omflex40.exe" and follow the directions on the screen.
Note: For both web and CD-ROM installations, remove the hyphens when you respond to the prompt to enter the hostid (Physical Address of your Ethernet card).
Starting the license manager service
Once installed, you need to start the FLEXlm service. To start the service:
- From the Windows desktop, select the Start menu - Settings - Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Services icon.
- Select the "FLEXlm License Manager Version 5.12a" service.
- Click on the Start button.
- After the service has started up, click on the Close button.
- Check the license manager log file (\FLEXlm\lmgrd.log) to ensure that the FLEXlm server started.
Note: Unless specifically redirected, the FLEXlm License Manager logs all interactions in the log file lmgrd.log. This file is found in the directory in which FLEXlm was installed (defaulted to C:\FLEXlm
).
Testing your FLEXlm installation
To test that your FLEXlm installation is working properly once you have installed OmniMark, you may test it by typing the following on the command line: omnimark -s text.xom
. You should receive as output the version of OmniMark you have currently installed.
Variant installations
You may need to refer to the following sections if you did not:
Recreating or modifying a license file
If, for some reason, you need to recreate or modify your license file, do the following:
- Note that this utility is designed to create a license file, called license.dat, in the working directory. It cannot be parameterized.
- Locate your authorization code information.
- From an MS-DOS window, change directories to the License Manager directory (for example:
cd c:\FLEXlm
).
- Run the authorization program by typing "
omnilm_setup
".
- The program will prompt you for answers; create a file called "license.dat" in the current directory.
Uninstalling FLEXlm
Uninstalling FLEXlm from your computer is done as follows:
- Make sure that no other applications on your machine or network are also using FLEXlm.
- Go to the Start menu, select Settings - Control Panel - Services, and stop FLEXlm.
- Go to the Start menu - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, and select FLEXlm from the Install/Uninstall tab and click on the Add/Remove button.
