1. About this Manual

Next chapter is Chapter 2, "Overview of TOI".

This is the User Guide and Reference Manual for the Tiny OmniMark Interpreter (TOI). TOI is an interactive, command-oriented development tool that is designed to help OmniMark programmers write, test, and debug external functions. External functions are written in a language such as C or C++ and use the OmniMark External Function API. Once the external functions are compiled into a dynamic link library, they can be called from OmniMark or TOI programs.

This manual assumes that programmers already have the following knowledge:

• Basic understanding of the OmniMark language, including the declaration and use of OmniMark internal functions.
• How to declare OmniMark external functions,
• The C programming language,
• The OmniMark External Function API,
• How to compile C source code into a dynamic link library on their target machines.

External function programmers will need the following additional manuals:

• For detailed documentation on declaring and using OmniMark external functions see "OmniMark Programmer's Guide."
• For information about the OmniMark External Function API, see the "OmniMark External Functions Programmer's Guide."
• For information on creating dynamic link libraries on your target machine, see the platform-specific external function document for that machine.
